I can’t even fathom a more crazy scenario than a Taylor Swift Met Gala in 2024, except perhaps a Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Met Gala. It’s undeniable that if Swift had made an appearance at the event, the spotlight would surely have been on her the entire night.
Following their unexpected appearance at Coachella last month, there was speculation about whether Swift, 34, and her NFL boyfriend, 33, would make a grand entrance on the Met steps on May 6th, much like Swift’s protege Sabrina Carpenter and her new beau, Barry Keoghan. It’s worth noting that Swift hadn’t been seen at the California music festival since 2016, which coincidentally was also the last time she attended the Met Gala.
This year’s grand event happened just three days prior to Swift getting back on the road for the Eras Tour in Paris, and long before Kelce had to head to NFL training camp in July. So, theoretically, it was all perfectly timed. (Let’s not forget, this is the same amazing woman who jetted from Tokyo to Las Vegas just to support Kelce at the Super Bowl.)
On April 30, it was reported that Taylor Swift would not be participating in the upcoming event, opting to concentrate on her Eras Tour. According to People, this decision was accurate, as usual. Fans are excited about the possibility of Swift adding new songs from her recent double album, The Tortured Poets Department, to her setlist. With such a significant change, it’s likely that she’s putting in extra rehearsal time to perfect the performance. It just adds up!
Throughout her professional journey, Swift has graced six Met Galas, exuding elegance and sophistication in a stunning long gown at each event. The only exception was in 2016, when she opted for a bold metallic Louis Vuitton mini dress paired with dark lipstick.
As per a TMZ report, both individuals were personally invited to the occasion. If Swift had decided to go, it would have been a great way for the billionaire to wrap up the promotion of her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department. Typically, Swift avoids walking the red carpet with her partners, and the Met Gala is a bit of a touchy subject in her world. Remember when she danced with Tom Hiddleston and met the camera-shy Joe Alwyn on the same night? They started dating right after her dance with Hiddleston. However, while Alwyn prefers to keep their relationship private, Kelce doesn’t seem to have any issues with being in the limelight. He enjoys a good photo op and has even appeared on Swift’s social media. Their cozy moments at home are showcased in the YouTube Shorts video for her song “Fortnight.” It’s clear that times are changing, and the old rules no longer seem to apply.
It’s possible that Swift decided to skip the invite to the Met Gala to steer clear of any potential drama. With the Kardashian family dominating the event in recent years, it’s understandable that Swift would want to avoid any awkward encounters, especially with Kim Kardashian, whom she has publicly clashed with in the past. Swift’s strong feelings towards Kardashian even led to speculation about a diss track being released. Additionally, the presence of former best friend Karlie Kloss may have also factored into Swift’s decision to stay away from the event. So, it seems like a Taylor Swift appearance at the Met Gala in 2024 was just not meant to be. But who knows, maybe she’ll make a comeback next year…
