Scarlett is a truthful individual who speaks from her heart about her love for acting.

Opening up: The 34-year-old was candid about the good and the bad in her industry

Looking back: She recalled a particularly tough time with director Jonathan Glazer while shooting Under the Skin where she was distraught about his behavior.

The 34-year-old actress openly shared her experiences in the entertainment industry, both positive and negative. She recounted a particularly difficult time while filming Under the Skin with director Jonathan Glazer, during which she was distressed by his behavior. Her character was constantly wet due to filming outside in the rain and snow, and the costume director would provide her with a warming jacket in between takes. However, Glazer instructed the costume director to stop providing her with this comfort. The actress recalled giving Glazer an angry look and thinking to herself that she wanted to harm him, but now she can laugh about it.

Rough times: Director Jonathan Glazer once instructed the the costume director to stop Scarlett a warm jacket in between takes to make sure she was feeling the cold

Difficult moments: During filming, Director Jonathan Glazer requested that the costume director refrain from providing Scarlett with a warm jacket in between takes to ensure that she experienced the full effect of the cold weather.

'If I wanted to decide to be wet and cold in order to feel wet and cold I¿ll make that choice myself, you know? But, sometimes directors imagine that they can do something like that.'

As an actress, I believe that I should have the freedom to make my own choices when it comes to experiencing certain emotions during a performance. If I want to feel cold or wet, I’ll choose to do so on my own terms. Unfortunately, some directors try to force these feelings upon actors without their consent. The industry has certainly changed since I started acting as a child. Recently, there was controversy surrounding a role I was set to play as a trans character. After facing significant backlash for not casting a trans actor, I eventually decided to step down from the role. Initially, I was stubborn and refused to relinquish the part, but the pressure became too great.

Drama: Recently Scarlett not-so-gracefully bowed out of an upcoming project as a trans character following significant backlash that the role wasn't given to a trans actor.

Entertainment news: Scarlett Johansson has withdrawn from an upcoming film where she was set to play a transgender character. This decision came after receiving criticism for not giving the role to a trans actor.

Touchy topic: She addressed was she called the 'political correctness' in casting without directly mentioning her controversial casting in Rub & Tug

The actress touched on a sensitive topic, referring to what she called “political correctness” in the casting process. Although she did not directly mention her controversial role in Rub & Tug, she addressed the issue of actors being limited in their roles based on identity politics. Speaking plainly, she stated that actors should be free to play any role, be it a person, tree or animal, as it is their job and duty. However, she acknowledged that there are social reasons for this trend, but asserted that it can sometimes hinder artistic expression. She believes that art should be free of restrictions and society would benefit from allowing people to have their own opinions and not forcing others to conform to a certain way of thinking.

'You know, as an actor I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job,' she said point blank.

She firmly expressed that actors, including herself, should have the freedom to portray any character, whether human, animal, or even a tree, as it is part of their profession and necessary for their job.

'I feel like it¿s a trend in my business and it needs to happen for various social reasons, yet there are times it does get uncomfortable when it affects the art because I feel art should be free of restrictions.'

In my line of work, there seems to be a growing movement towards certain social standards, which I acknowledge and support. However, there are instances when it becomes uncomfortable because it can impede on the artistic expression. I believe that art should have the freedom to be uninhibited. As someone who has spent most of my life in front of the camera, I have noticed that the final product that is presented to audiences is not always what I had in mind. It can be disheartening, but at times, it can also be a pleasant surprise. Moreover, how I perceive a role or character may differ from how it is received by viewers. Take for example my role in Lost in Translation, which is often interpreted as a story about being a foreigner in an unfamiliar place.

Always a surprise: The star, who has been in the industry for much of her life, went on to explain that as someone in front of the camera, she rarely ends up with the movie she thought she was making

It’s always surprising: The celebrity, who has been part of the entertainment industry for most of her life, revealed that as an actress in front of the camera, the final product of a film can differ greatly from what she had initially anticipated. She shared her personal experience with Lost in Translation, which to her was a story about a young woman losing her innocence and developing a deep connection with a stranger that ultimately transformed her. Rather than solely focusing on the foreign setting, the heart of the film revolved around the relationship between her character and Bill Murray’s character. The unfamiliar environment provided her character with a unique perspective on her life that she wouldn’t have gained otherwise, free from the constraints of her familiar surroundings and societal expectations.

'To me, Lost in Translation was so specific to a young woman experiencing her loss of innocence, and her profound relationship with a stranger made the experience transformative.'

In my opinion, Lost in Translation focused on a young woman’s loss of innocence and her life-changing relationship with a stranger. Tatijana Shoan, Editor in Chief of As If Magazine and Photographer, expressed her excitement about collaborating with Scarlett Johansson and David Salle. Working with such talented individuals transformed a typical celebrity shoot into an extraordinary creative partnership. Scarlett’s eagerness to participate in this unique project, guided by David’s exceptional vision, made Tatijana’s role as the photographer highly coveted. The outcome is a captivating art and fashion editorial featuring Scarlett immersed in Salle’s paintings. This project resulted in limited-edition, collectible dresses that will likely become museum pieces in the future.
