To Miley’s surprise, Dolly reacted strongly by clutching her pearls and gasping, telling Miley that she couldn’t possibly do that because Miley is “her”. It seemed as though Dolly saw Miley as an extension of herself and insisted that she remain a blonde.
Dolly has shared in the past about her close friendship with Billy Ray Cyrus, which eventually led to her becoming the godmother of his daughter, Miley. During an interview on Sirius XM’s Just Jenny show, Dolly explained how she and Billy Ray connected through their shared country roots, and even collaborated on a music video together. When Miley came into the picture, Dolly knew she wanted to take on the role of her fairy godmother. The recent New Year’s Eve special featuring Dolly and Miley singing together has garnered high praise on Twitter, with fans calling it one of the best performances ever and hailing Miley as an iconic vocalist of our generation.
