After the recent announcement about Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s decision to embark on his first significant and intense acting role in the upcoming biopic, The Smashing Machine, the ex-wrestler-turned-actor has now disclosed his future plans for his career trajectory.

In a conversation with Variety regarding his upcoming collaboration with director Benny Safdie on a sports drama based on the life of MMA fighter Mark Kerr, Johnson expressed his desire to challenge himself in ways he hasn’t before. Known for his blockbuster films, he explained that he is now seeking to create movies that have deeper meaning and explore the human experience of struggle and pain.

Johnson clarified that he is not completely abandoning blockbuster projects, but for now, he is focusing on other types of roles. He emphasized that this is not an abandonment of big, blockbuster movies because he genuinely enjoys making them and recognizes their value and importance. However, he believes there is a time and place for everything, and at this stage in his career, he craves more than just box office success. He wants to delve into stories that touch on the essence of humanity.
