The bizarre and uncomfortable conclusion to Zach Shallcross’ season was the final straw for me. I realized that the drawbacks of the show outweighed the positive moments, and I made the decision to stop watching.
But recently, I find myself being drawn back to the show for one specific reason: Leslie from “The Golden Bachelor.”
For those who are not familiar, “The Golden Bachelor” is a unique take on the traditional “Bachelor” concept, tailored for older contestants. The main participant of this season is Gerry Turner, a charming and endearing 71-year-old widower. His wife, Toni, passed away in 2017 after they shared 43 beautiful years together.
Gerry’s quest for love among the “Golden Bachelor” contestants, who range in age from 60 to 75, has caught my attention. And at the forefront of this captivating journey is Leslie. (You can watch her lively and playful entrance in the limo here.) Leslie Fhima, a 64-year-old fitness instructor from Minneapolis, exudes confidence and proudly displays her Jewish heritage on television. In several episodes, Leslie has worn a necklace with the Star of David pendant, including during her thrilling one-on-one ATV riding date in the latest episode. Meanwhile, the other contestants engaged in an entertaining game of “Never Have I Ever,” which is definitely worth watching.
Overall, Leslie’s vibrant personality and her unwavering pride in her identity have reignited my interest in the show.
Although the topic of her Jewish background was not mentioned during their aired conversation, Gerry and Leslie were able to connect on a sincere and vulnerable level. Gerry expressed his feelings to the audience, describing the warmth and affectionate closeness he felt with her. Their date ended with Leslie accepting Gerry’s rose and sharing a steamy kiss in a hot tub.
I am eagerly looking forward to discovering more about Leslie and her family in the upcoming hometowns episode (hoping she makes it there). In the meantime, let me give you a summary of what we already know about her: Leslie is a true fitness enthusiast, and her career choice reflects that. She has an impressive background as a professional figure skater, winning national aerobics championships at the age of 25, and completing 10 marathons. This exceptional woman disproves any stereotypes about Jewish athletes. Moreover, Leslie is also a devoted mother.
Leslie, a proud mother to three wonderful kids, Elijah, Chloe, and Zack, also holds the esteemed title of “glama” to her three adorable grandkids, Jackson, Sofia, and Yoseph. Adding to her delightful family is her mini Aussiedoodle companion, Billie. During her appearance on the show, she casually mentions to Gerry that she has been enjoying the single life for the past 22 years. However, unbeknownst to many, Leslie drops a bombshell – she had actually dated none other than the iconic Prince himself! Legend has it that Prince even wrote the famous song “Sexy Dancer” about her, but alas, they eventually went their separate ways. Beyond her romantic experiences, Leslie seems to have a knack for rubbing elbows with celebrities, as she proudly shares her acquaintance with Yung Gravy, as well as attending concerts of the incredible Lady Gaga and Post Malone. There’s simply no denying that this woman is undeniably cool. With high hopes and crossed fingers, we find ourselves eagerly rooting for Gerry and Leslie’s possible future together.
