In an interview with Parade magazine, Scarlett Johansson expressed her frustration about always being considered the second choice. The actress, who was named the highest-paid Hollywood actress by Forbes in 2019, revealed that she has been facing rejections since a very young age.
In the recent edition of Parade, Scarlett Johansson expressed her frustration by stating that she has ‘built her career on being the second choice’. She hinted at being consistently overlooked for certain roles, leading her to feel like she’s always the backup plan.
According to Scarlett, the greatest feeling is the one you get when you finally receive something you were once rejected for. She believes that the appreciation for it is greater, and she has made a name for herself by being the runner-up. Even though Scarlett gained her fame as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she wasn’t actually the original choice for the role. Emily Blunt was cast first but had to back out due to scheduling conflicts.
Johansson clinched the first position in a noteworthy achievement. Forbes recognized her as the highest-earning female Hollywood actor of the previous year, as she made a considerable amount of money from portraying a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
To begin, it’s interesting to note that Emily Blunt had initially landed the role of Black Widow, but unfortunately had to step down due to scheduling conflicts. This can be observed in the picture from July 2019 showcasing her presence.
Unfortunately, Scarlett’s efforts were in vain as she also tried out for the part of Lisbeth Salander in Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. However, the role was ultimately given to Rooney Mara instead.

Fincher stated that Johansson gave a great audition but that he couldn’t wait for her to take her clothes off. The part eventually went to Rooney Mara. In the past, Johansson has also expressed frustration at having to turn down certain roles. Recently, she stepped down from her role in Rub And Tug after facing criticism for playing a transgender character instead of casting a trans actor.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, she acknowledged her initial insensitivity and lack of knowledge about the feelings of the transgender community towards cis actors playing transgender roles. She expressed regret for her previous comments and admitted to being uneducated about the issue. Johansson’s upcoming movie, Black Widow, is currently set for a November 6 release.
