Taylor Swift’s Billion-Dollar Tour Propels 2023 Concerts to Unprecedented Heights

The Eras Tour by Taylor Swift and Beyonce helped drive a record year for concert ticket sales in 2023, according to industry magazine Pollstar. The top 100 concert tours of the year generated a record $9.17 billion in ticket revenues, with total sales for the year up 46% from the previous year. Swift, whose tour was the first to exceed $1 billion in ticket sales during its 60-date run from March to November, helped push average revenue per concert up 53% to $2.37 million, total ticket sales up 18% to 70 million, and average ticket prices up over 23% to $130.81. Beyonce’s Renaissance Tour came in second, generating $579 million over 56 dates, while Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour took third place with $939 million over 328 dates. Pollstar said it was an “extremely positive sign” for the industry that two women topped the rankings for the first time in 15 years. The outlook for 2024 is promising, with more concerts from Swift, Springsteen, and Coldplay, as well as tours from the Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, and Carrie Underwood.
