Dua Lipa dazzles with her jewelry dreams as she adorns herself in a timeless piece from the iconic Tiffany & Co. A gorgeous golden beryl necklace, originating all the way back to 1962, graces her neckline with elegance and allure.

The desire for uniqueness is evident through the use of unconventional colored gemstones and the selection of a rare archival piece that encompasses a rich history. This piece reflects the influence of the 1940s and the impact of war on jewelry design in the subsequent decades. During this period, the prominence of yellow gold in jewelry emerged as a result of the restrictions on platinum usage for non-war related purposes. Jewelers, faced with closed borders and disrupted trade routes during the war, had to think creatively and turned to a range of “semi-precious” stones, such as the golden beryl, to meet the demand. It is worth noting that beryl stones hold significance in the lineage of Tiffany & Co., a brand known for their bold choices in gemstone exploration. They played a key role in pioneering and naming stones such as kunzite, morganite, tanzanite, and tsavorite.

For centuries, people have been familiar with emerald and aqua, which are different types of beryl. However, it wasn’t until the start of the 20th century that the golden variant of this gemstone caught our attention. This necklace beautifully captures the transition from the rugged industrial style of the 1940s, with its bulky cuffs inspired by tanks, engines, and artillery, to the sophisticated elegance of the 1950s cocktail culture. In fact, the beryls at the end of the necklace seem to exude a playful energy, as if they are ready to dance.

This necklace holds its own story too—it took the center stage in a stunning display of the most exquisite jewelry of the season, as showcased in the December 1962 edition of T&C magazine (shown above). It even managed to garner attention in an advertisement circulating during that same year.
