Shakira has once again taken a playful jab at her ex-partner Gerard Piqué by featuring their former nanny in her latest music video. Collaborating with the Mexican band Fuerza Régida for their Spanish track El Jefe, the renowned Colombian artist portrays the tale of a blue-collar individual who aspires to escape his provincial roots and fulfill his ambitions of being a successful leader.
In the latest video released by Shakira, it becomes clear that any remaining resentment towards her ex-partner, Piqué, is still very much present. The video, which was shot in Miami where Shakira currently resides after separating from Piqué, features Lili Melgar, the nanny whom Piqué allegedly fired without proper compensation. The video showcases JOP, the lead singer of Fuerza Régida, portraying a local factory worker, while Shakira herself captivates in a glamorous black dress and knee-high boots. Throughout the video, she rides a horse used in flamenco dancing and even hops onto a migrant truck alongside JOP as they break free from their hometown’s limitations. However, it is towards the end of the video that Shakira saves the most intriguing surprise. She pays tribute to her longtime nanny as she unexpectedly makes a special appearance.
“This tune is dedicated to you, since you didn’t receive any severance pay/Once again, another unpleasant situation,” she croons, alluding to the rumors that Melgar was let go by Piqué without any financial compensation.
Melgar, depicted with a serious expression as the song draws to a close, worked as a caregiver for Shakira’s kids, Milan and Sasha, and was frequently seen accompanying the family on their trips abroad.
However, she supposedly lost her job without receiving any form of compensation after informing the singer about Piqué’s alleged infidelity.
The former couple officially confirmed the end of their 11-year relationship last June, shortly after Piqué was accused of cheating on Shakira.
Piqué, who has now entered a new relationship with model Clara Chia Marti, later denied the allegations of an affair, stating that there was ‘no infidelity on his part.’
According to Spanish broadcaster José Antonio Avilés, the former couple reportedly had an agreed-upon open relationship for the three years prior to their separation. Avilés stated that there was an understanding between them where they both had the freedom to do as they pleased, but publicly they presented themselves as a couple. These claims about their open relationship allegedly came from those close to Gerard Piqué, including his friends and family, who were shocked by Shakira’s mention of infidelity. Avilés also mentioned that Piqué was taken aback to learn about Shakira’s statement from the media rather than directly from her.
Elsewhere, journalist Pilar Vidal added that Piqué wants to avoid any speculations about the breakup being due to infidelity. According to Vidal, Piqué was surprised by Shakira’s statement, as it was her who took the initiative to end the relationship. After being granted full custody of their two children, Milan and Sasha, Shakira has relocated to Miami and there have been rumors of her being romantically involved with Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton. In June last year, the Colombian singer confirmed on Instagram that she and Piqué were no longer together, although some had already anticipated this due to reports in Spanish tabloids, suggesting that Piqué had cheated on her.

Spanish media outlet El Periodico reported that the pop star had kicked her partner out of their home, leading to their separation. Piqué reportedly gave his approval for his ex-partner to relocate to Miami with their two kids, in order to avoid a lengthy legal feud. Shakira’s desire to live in the city where her family still resides was believed to be the main point of contention in their previous inability to reach an out-of-court settlement. In a joint statement, they stated that they have reached an agreement that ensures the well-being of their children, which will be officially confirmed by the court. Their primary goal is to provide utmost security and protection for their kids, and they hope that their privacy will be respected.
