Many women feel the need to spend a significant amount of money on cosmetic surgeries or fillers in order to achieve the perfect pout. However, scientists have recently made a discovery that challenges this notion. They have found that artificially enhancing or reducing the size of one’s lips can actually have a negative impact on attractiveness.
In a study conducted by researchers, it was revealed that lips that are too big or too small for one’s face can make them appear less attractive. Interestingly, the study also identified certain celebrities like Taylor Swift, Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightley, and Scarlett Johansson as having naturally perfect shaped lips.
To determine this, the researchers gathered a group of 101 participants, consisting of 52 women and 49 men, and presented them with a variety of facial images for rating.
Researchers say they have unlocked the secret to achieving the most visually appealing lips and caution that the use of injectables might yield unfavorable consequences. Illustrated in the image is Scarlett Johansson, seen at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2021.

The study, led by dermatologist Sebastian Cotofana from Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, involved the use of eye-tracking technology to determine which part of the face participants were most attracted to. The researchers discovered that the most appealing configuration of the lips was when the distance between the bottom of the lips and the chin was twice the distance between the top of the lips and the nose. Additionally, the panel rated images highly when the lower lip thickness was one-fourth of the distance between the bottom of the lip and the chin, and when the upper lip depth equaled half the distance between the lip and the nose. For men, it was found that the space between the nose and lip should be three times the depth of the lips. According to Cotofana, “The proportion of the lips in relation to other facial features is crucial when using injectable fillers to enhance individual beauty.” Some of the women considered to have ideal lip dimensions, based on the study, are Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightley, Scarlett Johansson, and Taylor Swift.
