Lionel Messi bids farewell to Barcelona due to contract dispute

Last summer, there was a close call for Lionel Messi departing from Barcelona as he submitted a transfer request. It was anticipated that the 34-year-old would eventually commit to a fresh five-year agreement, which would have seen a significant 50% decrease in his salary.

Lionel Messi is set to part ways with Barcelona as the club has been unable to fulfill the terms of a new contract due to financial and structural challenges. The talented Argentine player has been a free agent since July 1 after failing to reach an agreement on a renewal before his previous contract expired on June 30. Although there were expectations of a new five-year deal with Barcelona, which would have included a 50% salary reduction, it seems unlikely now. Throughout his remarkable career, Messi has been a loyal Barcelona player, having joined the club’s academy and subsequently scoring an impressive 672 goals in 778 appearances since his senior debut in 2003. Barcelona issued a statement expressing their agreement with Messi on a new contract, but unfortunately, external circumstances, such as financial limitations and league regulations, have made it impossible to proceed with the signing.

FC Barcelona sincerely thanks Messi for his valuable contributions to the club and extends their best wishes for his future endeavors, both personally and professionally.
